Marlene Ebejer
Principal Lawyer
Marlene Ebejer is the Principal Lawyer of Ebejer & Associates Lawyers. She was admitted to practice in 2005 and in 2014 became an Accredited Family Law Specialist. Ebejer & Associates Lawyers Pty Ltd opened its doors in Werribee in 2006.
Prior to becoming a lawyer Marlene worked as a community worker focusing on housing, education, and economic development with a range of communities. She is the immediate past President of the Maltese Community Council of Victoria.
Returning to study law in 2000 whilst the general manager of a national training company, Marlene brings a holistic approach to legal work. She is able to look at a client’s circumstances and develop a plan forward to deal with the legal issues and any other associated issues that come to the surface.
Marlene Ebejer represents clients in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Magistrates Court, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) and the Supreme Court of Victoria.
In 2009 Marlene co-authored her first book, Focus: Family Law, 4th edition which was published by Lexis Nexis. The 8th edition was released in 2022 who co-authors are Victoria Byrne and Megan Aylett.
In 2013 Marlene’s first solo book was published by Lexis Nexis, Q & A: Legal Practice and Ethics. The 4th edition was released in 2022.
Marlene is also an academic in the areas of family law and legal ethics. She spent 13 years at Deakin University, 2 years at Australian Catholic University and Leo Cussen Institute, and Central Queensland University. By keeping her hand in academia Marlene ensures she is up to date with the ever-changing world of law and best practice.
Marlene has been actively involved in the Law Institute of Victoria’s legal aid task force promoting and encouraging Legal Aid to continue funding those people in the community who cannot afford to access the legal system.
Passionate about children’s issues, Marlene is often appointed by the Federal Circuit & Family Court of Australia as an Independent Children’s Lawyer.
Marlene has developed a practice in assisting parents to retrieve their children who have been abducted by the other parent and relocated overseas. When such cases arise Marlene works closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General’s department and lawyers in the country where the children have been taken. Our firm has had success with retrieving children from the Sudan, Indonesia and Nigeria.
Marlene speaks Maltese and works with clients of a Maltese background who have legal issues in Malta. Although she cannot practice in Malta she has close associations with various lawyers in Malta which enable her to assist those living in Australia with powers of attorney, sale of land and deceased estate issues.
In 2021, Marlene was duly admitted as a Notary Public in the Supreme Court of Victoria. She offers Notarial services in the Melbourne CBD, Werribee, Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula.
